Following
graduation from SHS, and a few semesters at Manatee Jr. College, I joined
the USAF (Sept 1962 to Sept. 1966). Basic training and electronics tech
school were at Lackland ABF San Antonio TX. Deployment following school was
to 33 Comm. Sq, 15th Air Force Headquarters at March AFB in Riverside CA.
The first civilian employment following the Air Force was with Space
Division of Raytheon Co. out of Waltham, MA.(Nov 1966 to Jan 1968) working
on the guidance computer for the Apollo Command Module at North American
Aviation in Downey CA. I then switched to the Space and Defense Sector of
TRW (Jan 31 1968 to Feb 5 2001) working at Space Park in Redondo Beach CA,
first as an environmental test technician testing the various “black” boxes
that make up a satellite, then migrating into the arena of Configuration
Management (much more challenging). I transferred to Las Vegas for the last
9 years of my tenure with TRW working in the Configuration Management
discipline on the Yucca Mountain Project (the repository to store the spent
nuclear fuel from the nuclear powered electrical generating stations around
the country) located in area 25 of the Nevada Test Site. I retired in
February of 2001. I was married twice, had two daughters, who gave me 6
grandchildren. My step daughter (2nd marriage) also had 3 children which
makes a total of 9 grandchildren. I relocated to the Dayton area of Northern
Nevada from Las Vegas in January of 2003 where I enjoy a relaxed retirement
in the wide open spaces of the Silver State. It is approximately a 30 minute
drive into Carson City (State Capital), 50 minutes to Reno, and around 18
minutes to Virginia City, home of the fabulous Comstock Load --- one of the
main reasons Nevada is a state today.
