It has been so wonderful reading bios from so many of SHS 1959
graduates. Many of you have done so many amazing things, but then that is
not so surprising, considering the abilities and talents that were so
obvious even during our high school days. My life has been rather ordinary
–
When I attended FSU, I met Lanny Weaver and married him after graduating
with a degree in elem. ed. In Dec. ‘62. We moved frequently, as Lanny was a
salesman/mgr. with the duPont Co. Our two children, Stacey (12/66) and
Kevin (9/68) were both born in St. Louis, but
considered Wilmington, DE their home, since they were 9 and 7 yrs. old when
we moved there after stays in Cincinnati , Chicago, Atlanta and
finally Wilmington, DE where we have been for 33 years. Stacey married
Jeff Berrier 3 yrs. after completing her elem. ed degree in N.C.
(Guilford College in Greensboro). Kevin married immediately after
completing his economic’s degree (compliments of football)
from Northeastern Univ. in Boston where he met Anne Rivet. Stacey and
Jeff’s daughter, Taylor, was born 2 years later, 6 weeks prior to Jacob,
Anne and Kevin’s first son. Samuel arrived 13 mos. later and Alanah
appeared 13 years later. Stacey
succumbed to melanoma cancer 15 years ago when her daughter was only
3. Jeff returned to his home state of N.C. where he met Angela who not only
has raised Taylor, but had 2 boys of her own who are 6 and 4.
During these 47 years with Lanny, I taught, stayed home with Stacey and
Kevin until they were both in elem. school and gave 35 years of my life to
education. When I retired in Aug. 2008, I had been a school principal for 15
years and the 20 years prior were spent in the classroom. I miss the
teachers and children, but my energy level is not up to what I felt
necessary to do my job effectively. Now I can volunteer for field trips,
book fairs and assisting teachers in the classroom as well as spend a great
deal of time with the youngest g’child, Alanah, who keeps me on my toes.
